Corona Vaccination Campaign : Preparations for the Over 40s

The Family Welfare Division and Supply Division have stated that the age group above 40 years will be given first priority in the vaccination campaign to be launched by the Government of Nepal from next year. An additional 4.5 million doses of vaccine will come from China by Thursday and the campaign will be launched by giving priority to that age group, said Upendra Dhungana.

This age group has become major priority for vaccination as more vaccines are coming at once. In the previous vaccination campaign, the age group above 50 years and other professional groups were given major priority in vaccination.

A ship of Nepal Airlines Corporation will go to China on Wednesday to get vaccinated. Chief of the Division Dhungana has said that preparations are being made for the ship to arrive on Thursday. 4.4 million doses of vaccines has been coming from the second phase of procurement process and one million doses of vaccines has been coming from institutional support.

The department has stated that the nationwide campaign will be started within a year of the vaccination. Earlier, 19 percent of the population had taken the first dose and 17 percent had taken the second dose. After the coming of additional vaccines, an additional 2.25 million people in Nepal will be vaccinated, both first and second. This time, the vaccination campaign will cover the remaining critically ill and chronically ill.

Although 4.5 million doses come from China at a time, there is no problem for storage, said Chief Dhungana. According to the department, the vaccine can be given to five people in one bag, that’s why it is possible to take a large number at once.

The vaccination campaign will start in all the provinces within a year of the arrival of the vaccine. Dhungana informed that the vaccine can be stored at the Tribhuvan Airport within the Kathmandu Valley, outside the Kathmandu Valley, Hetauda, Pokhara, Nepalgunj, Dhangadhi and other cities at the same time.

Nepal aims to vaccinate one-third of its population by January. As the supply of vaccines in the world market is becoming easier, it will be possible for Nepal to vaccinate the target population within the next four months.

Five billion people worldwide have been vaccinated. Chief Dhungana said that the government of Nepal is likely to supply all the vaccines on time as vaccines are becoming easier in the world market.
