What happened in 2015 in Nepal ?
A powerful earthquake struck between Kathmandu and another city, Pokhara, on the morning of 25 April.
The earthquake had a magnitude of 7.8, which meant it was very strong. And tremors were felt in nearby countries Pakistan, Bangladesh and India.
Then on May 12 of the same year, a second powerful 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck eastern Nepal near Mount Everest, killing more than 100 people and injuring thousands.
Many historical sites in the country of Nepal were seriously damaged, including temples and monuments. About 3000 people died as a result of the earthquake.
Impact of Earthquake in Nepal
Major damage was reported to property and sub-centres in Kathmandu and remote villages whose access was split by mudslides. In addition, many buildings collapsed, especially in the old Kathmandu city.
What’s more, many survivors were in bad shape, all awaiting medical treatment. On the other hand, more than hundreds of people from neighboring countries like China, India and Bangladesh also died in the earthquake.

The initial assessment of the economic impacts caused by the Nepal earthquake was surprising. The total economic impact in Nepal is estimated to be over US$10 billion, which according to the Government of Nepal accounts for 50 percent of the country’s GDP.
Subsequently, the Nepalese government spent US$5 billion or more to repair various types of infrastructure such as houses, highways or bridges.
On the other hand, the earthquake had a severe effect of damage and destruction of buildings and houses. Rent, housing prices and land prices were probably affected by the earthquake.
Impact on Citizens
After the massive earthquake, about eight million Nepalese citizens were affected, more than 25 percent of the country’s population. In addition, eight million people from 39 different regions were affected, and the major problems were the lack of food, water and electricity supplies.
Most of the houses were destroyed. Not only this, most of the citizens were displaced and the youth had to go to find work. Moreover, the hospitals were also not able to handle the large number of citizens who required medical treatment.
